West Islip Varsity Loses To Hauppauge

West Islip attempted to start off the 2006-07 season with a bang by taking on an elite Hauppauge team. The match saw the return of 112lb. Peter Gonzalez, the Lions' only retuning all-county wrestler. CoachChris Messina said that "the score was not reflective of the match because West Islip was in every match." Peter Zaccaria started off the night for the Lions defeating Ken Collado in a tough fought 5-3 match. Peter Gonzalez mad his return to the lineup, but was defeated by Jesse Mauro 6-3. Sean Messina recieved a forfeit at 119lbs. Kenny DidDonna wrestled a tough fought match against Stephen Dutton. At 135lbs. Anthony Bacchi almost upset defending New York State Champ, John Oschmann. Travis Courtney was pinned by Keith Collado at 135lbs. The middle of the lineup wrestled tough for West Islip but Hauppauge was able to soundly defeat Ray Multer, Kevin Beyerbach, Steven Smith and Pat Bell. West Islip tried to mount a comeback at with their upper weights, but were stopped by Hauppauge. Randazzo and Fernan both won the final two bouts against Mckenna at 215lbs. and Hatzel at 275lbs. The final score was Hauppauge 35 West Islip 18. The lions travel upstate to compete at the Clarkstown Tournament.
